Ground Provisions: A Gathering at 3Ecologies Institute
In-Residence Symposium
Sainte-Anne-du-Lac, QC Canada | December 14-18, 2022

About the project
Hosted by Dramaturgical Ecologies and the 3Ecologies Project (3e), this gathering marked the closing of a year-long series of outreach activities. Held at the 3e site in Sainte-Anne-du-Lac, Quebec over 3-days, the project gathered artists, scholars, and public intellectuals across Black studies, diasporic studies, visual arts, dance and performance, process philosophy, and performance theory to come together in conversation. Ground Provisions explored the generative tensions between dance dramaturgy and Black performance studies, with a focus on diasporic conceptualizations of Blackness in its creative manifestations. In dialogue with Dr. Erin Manning, whose work brings the philosophy of movement into conversation with neurodiversity and Blackness, and Dr. Bayo Akomolafe, whose reflections on post-activism, global crisis, and ontofugitivity challenge normative frameworks, Ground Provisions invites reflection on how notions of Blackness and dramaturgy productively rub up against one another. An extract of the final conversation between Manning and Akomolafe, facilitated by Angélique Willkie, can be found below.
